Hard to believe we're already 2 weeks into December, eh? My family usually have a few dates set up to celebrate the Christmas season but not this year. None of us are putting up a tree - Sister #1 is remodeling her home, Sister #2 is simply not feeling it + Mom + Dad are moving house, so no decorations. Me, I'm overthinking where to put one: where the exercise bike is? Or in front of the window right next to the tv? Is it even worth it if I'm leaving town on December 30? I dunno! We did, however, get together for our monthly church + lunch date today. As Sister 2 says, "We have to fight hard for our joy," so we prebook (+ defend) these mom/daughter dates like I prebook my client nail appointments. (Seriously, if you're not asking your clients to book their next appointment before they leave, try it! Some coaches say it's outdated but I, a normal indie nail tech, disagree. This simple question adds an elevated level of service, establishes mutual commitment + helps you anticipate + plan your income.) How do you usually spend your December? Do you hunker down with a little extra time off for yourself, or dive head first into Yes, we all have glitter explosions + sparkly nails in common til then, but I'm sure we're all celebrating December a little differently. Hit reply + let me know what your month will look like. Fingers crossed I'll get an email from you soon! π€π€ oxv, p.s. I know this time of year isn't jolly for everyone. If you're feeling any heaviness as we approach this season, please know I'm here for you. Yep, the person who normally emails you about nail nerdiness. I'm here for you Reader. p.p.s. Halloween is my Olympics + it starts on August 1. That's what @oohnicenails (aka Jess Warz - NAILS Next Top Nail Artist finalist, editorial artist + salon owner) replied to this recent IG story: Jess is famous (+ won 3rd place in NTNA π₯³!) for all kinds of handcrafted nail art: handpainted artwork, sculpted masterpieces, organic embellishments... And I'm not just talking about Swarovski crystals. Look π π Yeah, that's a real spider perfectly encapsulated + repurposed post-mortem from a dusty...
CHARGEπ YOURπWORTHπ How many times have you heard that + just found yourself... π€ π π° π₯΄ π? The "charge your worth" advice makes my teeth hurt for a couple of reasons. Lots of people take those words at face value. (Ask me how I know lol.) Your worth as a unique, once-ever-cosmic-event is priceless. There's no way anyone can pay what you're truly worth. Pricing is a super personal thing. What's "fair" or "required" varies from person to person + market to market. So what's a nail tech to do...
Hey Reader! This email is coming atcha late because I had a VERY full weekend + forgot that today is Monday. Even though I had one client, did some prep work for a couple of CND classes + got a permanent filling in my first EVER root canal. π All before attending a pre-screening of the movie Kneecap. (It was amaaazing!) Speaking of very full days, I know it's sooo easy to accidentally let a little π© fall out of the scoop... So in case you need a reminder of some things that can keep your nail...
